I had the amazing opportunity to stay at the Franschhoek Boutique Hotel on the weekend of 30th September to 2nd October. It was a great experience and here are my thoughts!
We arrived on the Friday evening as we both work and did not get leave for that day. This wasn’t an issue at all and we were welcomed warmly and enthusiastically by the staff. They were expecting us so we got to sit down and got drinks upon our arrival. The reception area is so beautiful! The décor made me feel like I was in the fanciest place. There are comfortable armchairs and a chandelier. It just looks very classy.
We were shown to our room as staff helped us with our bags. How nice of them! 🙂
The room we stayed at was called Aztec. It is one of 6 rooms at the hotel. The room is beautiful as well. It is one bedroom with a massive bed, small balcony, large mirror, table, chair, armchair, TV, tea and coffee station, and cupboards for storage with a hairdryer and safe. Of course the room came with an en suite bathroom. The bathroom is gorgeous with a big shower and the kind of bath you see in lifestyle magazines. We were very impressed with our room!
The coffee and tea station was a nice addition. There was an assortment of different teas as well as hot chocolate and coffee. There were these tiny tubs of milk, which I thought was so cute. We also had still and sparkling water, and wine (which we decided not to have).
The balcony is very small and has a beautiful view of the Franschhoek mountains and valleys. It was a pleasure each time we looked out at the view.
Friday night we just settled in and decided to order room service. We had never done this before so it was rather exciting for us. My partner ordered a steak and I ordered (obviously) a pizza! About 20 minutes later there was a knock on the door and our food arrived. It delicious and we were quite impressed with the service. The rest of the evening we enjoyed watching movies on the TV which has a nice selection of DStv channels.
On Saturday we decided that we would make the most of the day. So we headed down to the restaurant to have our breakfast. The breakfast menu is has some really good options and there is actually a copy of it in the room as well. I decided to have the French toast and juice (lovely!) and my partner had a platter that included cheeses, butter, jams, croissant, etc. He also had bacon and toast. In his words the breakfast was “solid” and I have to say that I agree. There is also a station with various juices, yoghurts, and cereals.
We then decided to explore the area a bit more. The hotel is situated in the heart of Franshhoek and everything is within walking distance. We got tickets to go aboard the Franschhoek Wine Tram. We still had an hour or so to kill before our bus took us to the tram tour so we decided to go to the Huguenot Monument and walk around there a bit. I hadn’t been there in years and it was nice to see the statue and the hedges again.
Our Wine Tram tour was great! We got the opportunity to visit about 6 or 7 wine farms. It is a hop-on hop-off tour so you can decide which ones you want to see. We visited 2 farms. One was a 3 red and 3 white wine tastings and the other was a red wine and chocolate tasting. The latter was my favourite and I even bought some of the chocolates afterwards. The tram not only showed us the different win farms in the area but we also got to see more of Franschhoek. We even took a stroll through one vineyard which was very cool. The tram also had audio commentary which told us facts about the wine farms and surrounding areas.
We felt like we had a busy day so we once again ordered room service that evening. For lunch we just got a few snacks at the local pick and pay across the road.
On Sunday we had to be out by 10h00 so we packed our things, loaded it into the car, and went down for breakfast. Unfortunately all I wanted to do was go home at this point as I had become ill overnight. I had been unwell for a while but I had deteriorated during the last part of that weekend. Breakfast was still lovely that morning, despite my health.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a quiet and relaxed getaway. The service and staff are amazing. The rooms and restaurants are beautiful and top quality. When you’re out they clean up for you without you even having to request anything. I felt like we were really taken care of and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I wouldn’t mind going back one day. I would rate it 8.5/10 🙂
