Almost two weeks ago on Thursday 9th October we attended The Fry’s Family Food Cooking and tasting event at the Giggling Gourmet Cooks Playground in Greenpoint with Chef Abdul. This was for foodies and bloggers alike as well as Ting quite loves the brand so we were looking forward to the event.
For those who don’t know much about Fry’s family, here is some background information from their website:
From small innovative beginnings in the Fry’s Family kitchen, Fry’s has become an international success. In an effort to seek vegetarian varieties Wally and Debbie Fry, both committed vegetarians, began making protein alternatives or meat analogues for their own consumption.
In 1992, just one year later, these ideas formed the canvas for innovative discovery which led to the establishment of Fry Group Foods. Fry Group Foods is still owned and run, passionately, by the Fry’s Family and has grown in product and stature to where it is today.
We arrived separately and as you enter the Giggling Gourmet Cooks Playground there is a beautiful and quaint alley filled with plants and flowers. We were greeted by a hostess who gave us instructions for the evening and then we proceeded inside where we were greeted by a cute kitchen set-up. We had meatballs for starters after which we waited for the event to start.
Once all the guests arrived we could choose any cooking station of our choice for the evening. We were then welcomed by a Fry’s Family representative followed by a demonstration by Chef Adul and his assistants on what we would be making. He made a prawn curry as well as chicken strips coated in sesame seeds – it looked so easy and simple to make!
We had fun cooking Prawn Curry and Chicken Strips together in the kitchen – from not knowing exactly what to do, to getting tips from Chef Adbul & team as well as interacting with other bloggers and foodies. It was absolute fun! We aren’t pro’s at all in the kitchen but our food came out really good – Actually it tasted better than what we expected! Once our food was done we all sat down and enjoyed our meal with a few drinks.
The food was so yummy and tastes so close to the real thing, even if you are or aren’t a vegetarian – their products are a must try!
Thank you to the Fry’s Family team as well as to Carla & team from Have You Heard for having us and for organizing such a superb event! We thoroughly enjoyed it and had a blast!
